    Yes. That is the normal practice, to not pay until you arrive. If you are doing it directly with the hotel, or hotel chain, they will not charge you. If you are dealing with a third party booking agent who has bought a block of rooms they usually charge you but not always. You are more likely to pay up front if it is a cheaper price.

    But in general, you need to reserve with a credit card and will be charge if you don’t follow the cancellation policy.

    Yes I book everything on line and never been asked for a deposit. They just ask for a Credit Card number, so if you don’t arrive they may charge you one nights accom.

    Some websites ask for full payment upfront as it is a very low rate they are offering (like) or there are others where most often you are not asked for a deposit (http://www.venere.com).
