i think technology will help travel agencies
Its true that online travel agencies are killing traditional travel agencies. Because they have more customers, easier access, no fees, and you can book vacations from your home. All this making it cheaper to travel using online travel companies.
Seriously doubt. People wants somebody to get back to if things go wrong. A tourist from London, England was in the news here in Canada. The lady ended up vacationing in Sydney, Nova Scotia instead of Sydney, Australia.
because there is no need for them anymore.
why pay a travel agent when you can do it yourself cheaper?
If anything, online booking enhances customer service. Even travel agencies these days have their own website with which you can browse through deals and book your flights online. It is simply more time efficient.
Travel Agencies need only to keep abreast of the times, and offer services that are more attuned to the advances of technology.
For example, should Transporter Rooms come in vogue, agencies could assign escorts to walk you through the process, which button to press should you re-appear with the head of a fly, how to breathe through gills should the travel destination be underwater, and how never to look for the reproductive organ of life forms with multiple tentacles. Things like that.
Technology made travel agents to start with. Yes anyone can do what they do but as they don’t cost anything a lot of people depend on them.
Business firms use them to keep their Reps moving and housed.
Conventions use them to handle all the paperwork.
I would use them as I have booked my own trip to find all is not as promised and had no one to call.
They save you money and as long as the airlines fly they are needed.
The new web travel agencies are: Travelocity, Expedia, Orbit, Itravel, Travel.org, and a whole host of travel agency websites who have all evolved to the technology of the internet. They thrive because they can reach the world instead of the locality if they were a physical office.
Today, one has to think global if the business is to survive.
Travel agencies who do not upgrade to new technologies and new strategies will likely die and become instinct. It is a tough environment now in the area of travel marketing. You adjust constantly to the changing world. The reason why Orbitz, CheapTickets, Travelocity and others are dominating is because they are constantly adopting and updating prices that are very competitive. Priceline introduced a new approach where you can bid for a seat or a car rental, a very innovative strategy. Since then I have booked my car as low as 12 USD a day which is not bad.
